LOCAL REAL ESTATE’S BACK: The Southwest Florida real estate market roared back in 2012, based on local brokerage operations’ performances. Sarasota-based leading real estate firm Michael Saunders and Company generated it’s highest total sales since 2005 (near the zenith of the region’s residential real estate boom). Florida reported a 7.9 percent increase in home prices over the year, the 10th highest rate in the nation.

SARASOTA COUNTY TOURISM STRONG STATS: Visit Sarasota County statistics for fiscal 2012 reveal that overall visits increased 9% over 2011, with expenditures and economic impact up 13.7%. Sarasota County saw increases in European travel by 20% and Canadian visits were up by 16.3%.

FLORIDA INFUSION: More than 171,00 people are expected to move to Florida in 2013, according to the most recent forecast from the state Office of Economic and Demographic Research. That’s more than during 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined! After that, net migration should reach about 250,000 annually.

Florida’s new migration wave is the result of baby boomers and other retirees moving south again and the state attracting more working-age adults.
