Dear friends,
It’s another beautiful day in paradise.
The Suncoast area has incredible opportunities for visitors looking for investment properties and planning for future retirement. Take advantage of the affordable housing prices.
Here’s some food for thought:
Home sales and prices across Southwest Florida in March hit their strongest stride since the height of the last market surge in August 2005. Closed sales of existing single-family homes rose 10.2% statewide in the first quarter of 2013 over the comparable period last year. It’s taking less time to sell a home and, coupled with tight inventory, that shows that buyers are eager to lock in historically low mortgage interest rates and take advantage of favorable but rising prices. When Canadians look at Florida, they are seeing bargains. A recent study indicates that Canadian purchases accounted for 18% of all home deals in Sarasota-Bradenton. More than a few of those homeowners, not surprisingly, start out as visitors. Canadians account for the largest single source of foreign tourists to Florida. A record 3.6 million Canadians visited the state last year. Read more: A Neighbor To The North Looks South
The Immigration Reform Legislation, filed on April 17, includes the JOLT (Jobs Originated Through Launching Travel) act. One of the provisions in this bipartisan bill is the “Canadian Retiree Visa” which will allow Canadians who meet the criteria to spend eight months of the year in the US, two months more than current policy allows. The criteria is: Canadian citizen, 55+, maintain a residence in Canada, own a residence in the US or have a rental agreement for duration of stay, will not work in US or seek assistance or benefit. Wirewalker Nik Wallenda announced that his preparations for a Grand Canyon crossing in late June will take place on a 1,200-foot cable strung above Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. Wallenda was recently honored with “Voice Of Sarasota” tourism award for promoting his hometown during a series of epic skywalks. Worldwide media attention will focus on the preparations. Wallenda has stated “the idea is isn’t just to show me training but to show them all of Sarasota too”. Here’s more: Wallenda Canyon Rehersals
A clever idea from a local realtor had students sharing creative plans for an expansive Bayfront parcel of land with 600 feet of bay frontage. The winning design, submitted from students in Moscow and Belgrade, is a lengthy pavilion elevated above a pond and supported by (in part) a stone post that rises out of the pond. Representatives of the International Federation Of Rowing Associations are reviewing Nathan Benderson Park’s bid to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships. Nathan Benderson Park is the only US candidate for the championships, which have not been held in this country since the 1994 competition in Indianapolis. If successful, the event will be the single largest tourism draw in southwest Florida’s history. Here’s more: World Rowing Championshp Pitch
