VISIT SARASOTA LAUNCHES NEW SITE: Visit Sarasota County recently launched a redesigned website which is built in what is called a responsive design. Responsive design means that the site conforms to the dimensions of the device (iPhone, desktop, iPad) on which it is opened. The new site is divided into sections. Beaches and places to go, things to do and places to stay are the most prominently displayed sections on the site because they receive the most traffic. FINDING THE PERFECT BEACH: Visit Florida, the states’ tourism agency, has created a online ‘beach finder’ that will do all the work for you. The interactive program, a Web-based platform that allows users to rank their beach needs – from how romantic to how family-friendly each beach is – is now available on line. With more than 120 million visitors expected to flock to Florida’s beaches every year by 2020, Visit Florida is working with county tourism bureaus to up the ante on promotions showcasing the Sunshine State’s top tourism staple. REGULATORS FOCUS ON CANNABIS CONTROLS: With Florida voters three months away from deciding whether to back a medical marijuana initiative, state regulators are grappling with setting rules that may shape how the historic shift is handled. If voters back the amendment –  polls show overwhelming support – the question becomes how the Department of Health will restructure the initial regulatory system for distributing medical marijuana to “meet the needs of an expanded patient base”. SARASOTA IS HUNGRY FOR RETAIL: With three retail centers in the works, including the only enclosed mall to open in the US this year, retail in booming in Southwest Florida. Robert Gibbs retail consultant and author of “Principles of Urban Retail Planning and Development” was commissioned by the City of Sarasota to do a comprehensive study of retail and its growth in the Sarasota market. He targeted four core urban areas and was shocked at the results. The study revealed that Sarasota has incredible demand for more retail and restaurants. Click here for more: Retail demand is strong

SARASOTA MEMORIAL LANDS PRIME SPOT ON HOSPITAL LIST: Sarasota Memorial Hospital has improved its national ranking in the latest US News & World Report survey of “Best Hospitals” collecting the fifth-highest overall score in the state and the highest for Southern Florida.
