FLORIDA PREDICTED TO BE #1 MARKET : Housing analysts predict Florida’s real estate market will be the one to watch in 2014 – again! The Home Buying Institute predicts the Sunshine State will surpass housing markets in California, Las Vegas and Phoenix to retake the national spotlight next year, edging out other recovering markets, according to a new report. FOREIGN BUYING BOOMS : A growing number of international buyers are taking advantage of Southwest Florida’s still relatively low home prices by snapping up primary residences and investment properties alike. A PUSH FOR THE ARTS : Visit Sarasota Country, the area’s tourism agency, has created www.visitsarasota.org/arts-and-culture to better tout artistic, historic and cultural offerings to tourists considering a vacation or extended stay in Sarasota. Within the site are pages focussing on visual arts, performing arts, heritage history and education, entertainment arts, festivals, architecture and other attractions.
RAINFOREST GARDEN OPENS : Selby Gardens celebrated the grand opening of the Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden on November 9. The newest attraction to the breathtaking gardens includes a 12 foot waterfall, swinging bridges and a wonderful teaching opportunity for children and adults. BRINGING MORE SAND TO LIDO SHORELINE : Walking down Lido Beach and listening to the waves crash, you are watching it all slip away underfoot. Even on calm days, the ocean is exorable in washing the sand away. The erosion is inevitable, however plans are going ahead for a 50 year, $22 million project to rebuild Lido Beach and maintain it for the future. SIESTA BEACH PROJECT IS APPROVED : Sarasota County is about to start construction on a project that will change the look of Siesta Beach. The plans include creating a pedestrian walkway and expanding parking, restrooms, shelters and concessions. The county plans to spend $21.5 million on all improvements.
